Chapter 26

1. Of David. Judge me, O Lord, for I have walked with sincerity, and I trusted in the Lord; I shall not falter.		א. לְדָוִד \| שָׁפְטֵנִי יְהֹוָה כִּי אֲנִי בְּתֻמִּי הָלַכְתִּי וּבַיהֹוָה בָּטַחְתִּי לֹא אֶמְעָד:
Judge me: And elsewhere (143:2) he says, “You shall not enter judgment [with Your servant].” Said David: When You judge the wicked, judge me, for compared to the wicked, I am a righteous man, but when You judge the righteous, do not bring me into judgment.
2. Test me, O Lord, and try me; refine my reins and my heart.		ב. בְּחָנֵנִי יְהֹוָה וְנַסֵּנִי צָרְפָה כִלְיוֹתַי וְלִבִּי:
3. For Your kindness is before my eyes, and I walked in Your truth.		ג. כִּי חַסְדְּךָ לְנֶגֶד עֵינָי וְהִתְהַלַּכְתִּי בַּאֲמִתֶּךָ:
4. I did not sit with dishonest men, neither did I go with hypocrites.		ד. לֹא יָשַׁבְתִּי עִם מְתֵי שָׁוְא וְעִם נַעֲלָמִים לֹא אָבוֹא:
and… with hypocrites: who go into hidden places to do their deeds in the dark.
neither did I go: I am not accustomed to come and enter their assembly.
5. I hated the congregation of the evildoers, and I did not sit with the wicked.		ה. שָׂנֵאתִי קְהַל מְרֵעִים וְעִם רְשָׁעִים לֹא אֵשֵׁב:
6. I washed my hands with cleanliness, and I encompassed Your altar, O Lord.		ו. אֶרְחַץ בְּנִקָּיוֹן כַּפָּי וַאֲסֹבְבָה אֶת מִזְבַּחֲךָ יְהֹוָה:
with cleanliness: For there is no robbery [involved] in my fulfillment of the commandments.
7. To proclaim thanksgiving with a loud voice and to recite all Your wonders.		ז. לַשְׁמִעַ בְּקוֹל תּוֹדָה וּלְסַפֵּר כָּל נִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ:
To proclaim: Heb. לַשְׁמִעַ, like לְהַשְׁמִיעַ.
all Your wonders: This refers to Hallel, which contains mention of the past, mention of Gog and Magog, mention of the Messianic era, and mention of the future.
8. O Lord, I love the dwelling of Your house and the place of the residence of Your glory.		ח. יְהֹוָה אָהַבְתִּי מְעוֹן בֵּיתֶךָ וּמְקוֹם מִשְׁכַּן כְּבוֹדֶךָ:
9. Gather not my soul with sinners nor my life with men of blood,		ט. אַל תֶּאֱסֹף עִם חַטָּאִים נַפְשִׁי וְעִם אַנְשֵׁי דָמִים חַיָּי:
10. in whose hands are plots and whose right hand is full of bribery.		י. אֲשֶׁר בִּידֵיהֶם זִמָּה וִימִינָם מָלְאָה שֹּׁחַד:
plots: Heb. זמה. Every זמה in Scripture is an expression of a plan, some for good and some for evil.
11. But I walk with sincerity; redeem me and be gracious to me.		יא. וַאֲנִי בְּתֻמִּי אֵלֵךְ פְּדֵנִי וְחָנֵּנִי:
12. My foot stood on a straight path; I will bless the Lord in assemblies.		יב. רַגְלִי עָמְדָה בְמִישׁוֹר בְּמַקְהֵלִים אֲבָרֵךְ יְהֹוָה:
My foot stood on a straight path: Heb. במישור, on a straight path.
