Hide & Seek

Rosh Hashanah, the Baal Shem Tov taught, is a game of hide and seek. G‑d hides, we seek.

But where can G‑d hide? Wherever you go, there He is. As the Zohar says, “There is no place void of Him.”

So perhaps what the Baal Shem Tov meant is more like peek-a-boo—when the parent hides behind his or her own fingers. So too, G‑d hides Himself within the guise of an awesome, indifferent king, judging His subjects strictly by the book until the most sublime angels shiver in dread.

And we seek. We seek the father behind the stern voice. We are the small child who climbs into the king’s arms, tears off the mask and exclaim, “Daddy!”

Which is just what He was waiting for.

Beautiful!
Simply beautiful sentiment. Hashem makes us parents, so that we experience a tiny tiny fraction of the pleasure and frustration he receives from us as his children. And there is nothing that moves us more than having our child hug us and say "Daddy" or "Mommie"! You especially touched my heart today.

Hide & Seek
What a beautiful metaphor. The image of Hashem playing "peek-a-boo". I don't think it is He that is hiding. I think it is "us" that cover our eyes. Because if we did not, we would see perfection in us and the world we live. When hide from Hashem we only believe we are hidden like an ostrich with its head in the sand. It takes courage and conviction to knowingly bare ourselves before the Almighty.

Remove the Veils between us
To the extent that we tear away the veils of hatred, envy, jealousy, self-love......He will reveal Himself to you....then you will understand what Love between us is.
