To some, G‑d is great because He makes the wind blow.

For others, because He projects space and time out of the void.

The men of thought laugh and say He is far beyond any of this,
for His Oneness remains unaltered even by the event of Creation.

We Jews, this is what we have always said:

G‑d is so great,
He stoops to listen to the prayer of a small child;

He paints the petals of each wildflower
and awaits us there to catch Him doing so;

He plays with the rules of the world He has made
to comfort the oppressed and support those who champion justice.

He transcends the bounds of higher and lower.

He transcends all bounds.

We never seen G-D
G-D is beyond Supernatural. A little sense of humor won't hurt, I wonder if our G-D is an extra-terrestial?
Our G-D is much, much more than moving the earth, air, water, fire all these elements. Yes, our G-D listens to everyone and watches everyone until our day of judgement arrives. In other words, G-D does not get involved.

Greatness
Yes Pincus Brandt,
It is hard to swallow such atrocities. But we need to think about it. Did Hashem commit these atrocities? It was the evil in these man and his followers. They all have paid their price for what they did, and are still paying. When my mom got ill, she started to deteriorate little by little. I was devastated. I was losing her. Then I lost my job. I had to leave to return to US. Left her with my sister. Being a single mother I could not return. I had to start all over again building up my life and my daughter's. Five months later she dies. I could not go to be w her nor for the funeral. Then I learnt. She left her body, but her soul is still alive. She is alive in me. We go to sleep, to wake up in the morning. Did not know nor feel anything when we fell sleep. In the morning we return to this world. She went back to her maker. My comfort is that we will return to him someday. Our Father who loves us truly. He, bleesed be He meant well to create us. We commit evil.

G-d does champion the opressed and He does support those who champion justice.

That there are events that are beyond our limited understanding is also not new.

G-d is great for all these reasons, and more!
All of these are valid reasons to ponder on the Greatness of Hashem. I have found myself contemplating on G-d's Greatness for all these reasons, any many, many more!

G-d's greatness
I love this, because I have experienced it myself :) G-d is not big or small, as you said He transcends both since He made them all! How simple yet profound! Today I attended the funeral of my 19-year-old grand-niece. She had a heart problem and had encouraged others to have heart transplants (which she couldn't have since her condition was incurable). Of course, I was questioning WHY?! But when I came home and read this, it was very helpful. Because where can we be outside of G-d, Who has created everything? G-d's blessings on u for ur work!
Thx for sharing,

I thought I got it all figured out
Thanking you for reminding me about prayer as I have been asked this and suddenly found a room I forgot to explore.

I recently concluded that even our own lives are not about our own lives but about G-d's purpose.

So this is how I became at peace with the existence of pain and senseless deaths. Not that I tolerate them, but see now what they are for. They are cups, pathways for a future good that we cannot know until it happens. In the case of the gas chamber of auschwitz, it's the United Nations and global
intolerance for acts of violation against human rights.

I am at a loss now for prayer. For if all is for a good that is unfolding, even that which is bad, what is the need for prayer?

Faith that G-d is good has allowed me to thank G-d when I experience something bad knowing its for good. Perhaps not mine, but for a species of ladybugs or birds, I don't know. I trust he does it for the collective good. And then this Daily Dose, sends me a-thinking again. Prayer works, why?

I and Thou, Them and Thou
.... All religions, what they have always said, is that G-d is so great He stoops down to listen to the prayer of a small child .....

A beautiful post. G-d hears every prayer, even if His responses are beyond our understanding. This reflection focuses on one aspect of G-d's relation to His creation, in which beauty prevails, the Creator cares for every individual living thing, and His handiwork is evident. Sadly, there is another aspect, in which suffering of the innocent exists, and we don't know its purpose.

G-ds Greatness
I am moved by the greatness of a G-d that listenes to the prayer of a little child. and who paints the petals of each wildflower and awaits us there to meet him. It is true. There I meet him very often.
But I thought also about the prayers of the little child in a Gas chamber in Auschwitz. I can not get it together. He is too great for my human understanding. There will be a
day He explains it to me.In the meanwhile I try to praise Him for good and for bad.
