Essential Good

At the core of all our thoughts and beliefs lies the conviction that the underlying reality is wholly good. That evil lies only at the surface, a thin film of distortion soon to be washed away by the waves.

Looking past the problems
When G-d took Abram aside before he changed his name He told Abram to gaze at the stars and his children woild out number them. The point is, the point of view we take when we look at the irritations and pains and troubles we encounter, which are real. Will we look down on them and see how small and short lived they are or look up at them and feel like we are going to be crushed by them, like a wave upon swimmers,

Maybe the core is evil
Some people think that the world was created by an evil being to separate us from the Divinity beyond itself.

So you cannot assume that we all regard the underlying reality as wholly good, or even partly good.

My former spouse used to tell me, every day, that the world was evil, and that there was a thin veneer of pleasure to tempt us to remain in this world instead of committing suicide, as we should do based on the evil of this world.

This idea lies at the heart of gnosticism.

Knowing that many people have believed, or do believe, that this world is basically evil, what is your reply?

For your statement as to what lies at the core of "all" our thoughts is simply untrue.

Not all of us have this at our core. Some people's thoughts profoundly disagree. Truly they do, difficult as it is to imagine.
