When is Yom Kippur in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017?

E-mail

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, falls on the Hebrew calendar date of 10 Tishrei. Here are the coinciding secular dates for upcoming years:

2013:   September 13-14

2014:   October 3-4

2015:   September 22-23

2016:   October 11-12

2017:   September 29-30

Note: The Jewish calendar date begins at sundown of the night beforehand. Thus all Yom Kippur observances begin at sundown on the first secular date listed, and conclude the following day at nightfall.

Same date
Yom Kippur and all Jewish holidays are observed on the same date on the Hebrew calendar, whichever secular date that coincides with applies to wherever one lives.

In this case, Yom Kippur supersedes Shabbat so we do not make kiddush nor the blessing on challah, nor do we eat or drink anything else. We do eat two full meals on Friday before the start of the fast. For more information please see: Fasting when Yom Kippur is on Shabbat
