Is human breast milk dairy?

Human milk is not included in the prohibition of mixing meat and (animal) milk, and would therefore fall into the category of "pareve." The rabbis, however, taught us that we shouldn't mix mother's milk with meat because of "mar'it ayin": someone seeing the mixture might think that this is a forbidden combination of milk and meat.

Since it is not dairy, it's not a problem if a drop of breast milk accidentally falls into meat or if a bottle used for breast milk is washed with meat dishes.

All the best,

72 hours
I believe the 72 hours for a child over 2 applies only if the child stopped nursing of their own volition. So if the mother went away for 3 days, that was not the child's choice to stop. I believe she can resume nursing when she returns. There's also the question of when the 72 hours begin. Let's say my 2 yr old child only nurses morning and night. If I nurse her in the morning, does the 72 hours begin then, or does it begin from the first nursing that I miss - which would be 12 hours later. Lots to think about.

Re: Is non-Jewish milk kosher?
Milk from a non-Jewish woman is permissible, however, it is preferable to use milk from a woman who is careful to eat only kosher food.

breast milk
I asked my rabbi about breast milk being kosher, he said that not only is it kosher but it is pareve. He remembered reading it somewhere but could not remember the source of that information. Do you have that source since you did also say the same thing. Thank you.

Can Adults Drink Breast Milk
So is it kosher for an adult or a grown up child to consume breast milk? For an example, using a cup.

Does the Torah makes any reference to this issue?

Thank you so much.

Age limit for nursing
A healthy child can nurse up to age four, and a sickly child through age five. However, a child older than age two who has stopped nursing for 72 hours cannot resume, unless there are health issues involved. There is no problem with drinking expressed milk at any age. (Yoreh De’ah, 81:7)

Please could you tell me the 'certain age' you mention. Also could you reference.

Thank you
