Failure is wasted if you return only to the place from where you fell.

If your plans fail, think bigger, aim higher.

exploiting setbacks
Have learned over and over - keep doing something the same way, you'll continue getting the same results. I compare it to self help programs - i.e. overeaters anonymous, smokers anonymous, emotions anonymous (most all of the 'anonymous' programs available), weight watchers, etc. etc. With valuable support and encouragement, it's possible to stay determined to 'aim higher' - slowly make changes, and - with a lot of work and personal commitment - get back up. Over time, 'failures' can become life long successes, even with great obstacles! Tough? You bet. A struggle? Definitely. Set backs? Most everyone has set backs, it's a matter of getting back up and trying once again. Easier said than done, and even scary! Keep asking G-d for guidance and strength! (ps Elaine, it's been 8 years since your comments - hope you are out of a sad place now)

Exploiting a Set Back
This thought comes at an especially good time as I fell off my horse 30 April and will be laid up for 4-6 weeks. I will try to turn this very negative experience to a positive spiritual one and get back in touch with Judaism.

Exploiting a setback
It seems to me if one looks at the title that one is getting a a lesson from a setback, making the necessary adjustment and moving forward. I have learned more from setbacks than I ever did from sailing through a situation, be it personal, business or in relationships. The failure comes from giving up and quitting.

But, What...
But what happens if the places I left were not because they were my failures, because I know I didn't leave any failures behind me, but because I made a promise to someone? And in this new place that someone is successful finally and now I am the failure and I am not jealous in fact I am thrilled, excited and happy for that person. And let me tell you there has been much psycho babel to make attempts to infer the contrary into my soul. But, I I always knew they could, I always knew how to get up from mistakes, but I don't know how to get back up from failures, I don't know, honestly, I don't know, I really don't know. Maybe what I need to know is what is the difference between failure and mistakes? You see mistakes always told me I "slipped up" But now I hear that what I thought to be success was failures all along? It's a craze, I tell you, it's a craze in crazy, so how do I walk through it? Sigh, O thank you dear kind listener, thank you and Peace to all

I am agree 100%. It is sad maybe because I am living like this right now, and i can't get out of this.
