The Convenient Mind

The mind will always find the answer most convenient for the mind.

Even in its search for spiritual enlightenment, the mind will only rest where there is enough room to remain a mind. Therefore, on its own, the mind can never grasp G‑d.

To reach G‑d takes a sense that is beyond the need to exist: the essential knowledge of the inner soul. Only once the mind has drunk from that fountain can it be trusted to see beyond itself. Only then can it see the place where mind ceases to exist.

The soul must reach further than the mind, further than the heart, into real action. The soul desires G-dliness should be found in all things. That is why we have so many mitzvahs--mezuzah, challah, tefillin, kosher food....more and more, so that every aspect of our life can be filled with the G-dliness of our souls.

The Convenient Mind
I am taught I am consisted of body, soul and spirit. The mind is part of the soul. As a man thinks so is he, but a soul response is not of the spirit. What does the L-rd require of me but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Him. To do is of the realm of the natural, to love is of the soul, but to walk with the Infinte G-d in humble reality takes the connection with the supernatural. Am I close to what you say?

The Convenient Mind
Yes, and to drink of this fountain of eternal truth, the water of life, will bring peace of mind, and the rest from any kind of worries coming from the world we live in. How to drink? It is to be trusting in the Lord and having faith in Him where the Light is from everlasting to everlasting. Then the word Blessing will be a reality and whatever fate in this life, there is peace in heart and soul. Mind you!

Provide a natural way to shut down all the body energy and then the mind will also shut down but be fully aware without a thought and how long that is you can not tell until you think how quite it is without thought.

A convenient mind
Thank you so much for the answer! I realize no I was using techniques I learned in Yoga where one is to sit for long periods of time thinking of nothing. I have learned to meditate by preparing and then concentrating on Hebrew letters, or say "the Shema" letter by letter. Thank you so much.

For Boca
You can't feel non-existence--if you are feeling, that means you are feeling that you exist.

What you may be doing is emptying the mind. Emptying the mind as a goal on itself is not a good idea. It's a preface to filling it with good things. But if the focus is simply on emptying, then you are making a vacuum for the wrong things to enter--something like blasting away all the benign bacteria with disinfectants so that the real nasty ones have room to take over.

What's written here about the mind going beyond mind has nothing to do with either of these concepts. It's a matter of the mind visualizing those things it can never really grasp. Chassidus Chabad is a discipline that trains the mind to do this.

The Convenient Mind
Is it not dangerous for the mind to attempt to go beyond itself? While meditating it is possible to feel non-existence. It is wonderful! But I am fearful each time I try. It is not the desire not to exist. It is the desire to exist only in and for Hashem. It is a wonderous moment, one that is beyond explanation and with a desire not to leave. Is this safe?
