Four Gates

Think of yourself as a city. You have four magical gates: The Gate of Seeing, the Gate of Listening, the Gate of Imagining and the Gate of Speaking.

Magical gates, because the Infinite G‑d cannot fit in any place or any concept, but He chooses to dress neatly in a wisdom called Torah and enter your city through these gates.

That is why all the world competes to storm those gates. They want you to see the ugliness they see, hear the cacophony they hear, imagine the nonsense they imagine and speak without end. And then, you will desire all they desire and no room will be left in your city for the Master of all Things.

All you need is mastery of those gates and the city is yours.

I will add my todah rabah to Rabbi Tzvi also, Chanoch.

I just read the artlcle on forgiveness in the weekly magazine and was reminded that forgiveness can only be granted by the person harmed. I do love myself, I'm just striving to be a better Jew.

I struggle mightily at this time; tomorrow, 1-5, is the 15th anniversary of my first daughter's death; she was a 5 year vet with OKCPD when she was killed. A river of grief runs through my soul.

First a thank you to Rabbi Tzi for allowing the dialogue. Karin, consider that forgiveness and love of self might allow us to be loving and forgiving of others.

Chanoch, thank you for the important reminder that we all struggle with the same things, even our greatest! I am my worst critic and expect far more of myself than others!
L'Shalom.

Karin, Think of Moses, his self confessed difficulty with speach, and yet wth the vision and G's help, saw himself as the greatest orator, judge, prophet. He set his mind, body and soul in a new direction and acomplished the correction he needed. With G's help, we can do it.
Thanks, Shalom,

Although many of the Daily Doses impact me, this one touched me as no other has.

I have dealt with long term illness in 2009; perhaps that it is the reason it has been easier to see and to listen better, not just the spoken word but the unspoken. These two aided in imagination being more positive.

The gate that remains elusive is speaking, I blurt too much; the words are not always kind and respectful of others.

I am not one of make new year resolutons, but working on my speech is going to be my goal.

Tthank you for the comments that inspire, for those that challange the intellect, and most of all those commentaries (such as 4 gates) that talk directly and connect to the soul.

Thanks for a daunting assignment. This is one inspiration that is beyond yours truly. But every step in that direction helps. The moral of the story: Do the best you can, no less no more. You maintain health, spiritual and physical not only through balance but also by optimizing. Overdoing things usually ends up being less, not more.
Just food for thought.
