The Puzzle
 |
Think of your world as a massive jigsaw puzzle in time and three dimensions. All the objects and events are meant to fit together neatly, yet they seem just a heap of dysfunctional fragments.
Here is the trick to reassembling those fragments: Find your own purpose first and start moving headstrong towards it. Once in that mode, all things related to your purpose will find you. And those things already attached to you will find their place as well. Suddenly, where once noise and chaos tore you in a thousand directions, a great symphony occurs.

I have over the years added observances and taken on quite a bit including being Shabbat observant. My husband resents my Orthodox observance of halacha. Most people comment how wonderful my changes have improved me and I seem happier. My husband is not at all happy about them. He told me tonight that he thinks I'm putting people down by thinking that people with Jewish fathers and non-Jewish mothers are not Jewish. He feels that he doesn't respect me that I say that they are not included in a minyan. Perhaps sometimes setting an example can be positive in my case it's causing a lot of resentment, anger.

To me, finding purpose is figuring out my heart's desire, not referring to money things. Any time I've ever asked someone what is their heart's desire, I have never heard anyone respond that they want to win the lottery. The responses usually are happy children, good health, etc...those little things that mean so much.
But in this case, "purpose", I am thinking that it also could be whatever one's heart's desire is. Perhaps a special talent or skill or affinity for an ideal or philosophy (special causes, etc) might be a good place to start.
And lastly, I always think that the answer always only is as good or detailed as the question that is asked, whatever that question might be. The intent behind it, so to speak. Have a clear image (intent) in one's mind's eye when asking a detailed question and wait for AND SEEK OUT the answer.
To me, these things that I've shared are what help me with finding purpose. And there are many purposes to pursue. And many blessings too!

THANK YOU!!! My husband and I have always considered things of our lives(individually) as a "Puzzle," but, I had not associated it with our purpose! When I just read that short article, it was as if a blast went off in my brain. I will not only copy and post, but, will pass this 'Key' on to my husband & others! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! G_D's SPEED!

I agree that a singular course of action in line with our destined purpose or work would create the most harmonious of circumstances. Question is, finding our purpose. Sounds easier than it is. I like many other people spin my wheels in search of this elusive purpose. I pray to G-d every day to illuminate my path so that meaningful purpose lights up my brain and soul like a lightbulb. I would love to hear any methods or ideas on discovering one's purpose that is simple, clear and honest. Many New age books out there claim to help one do this, but we all know that's not the case, and thats no "secret"! Thanks

No matter how many "things" you have, you have one purpose and one purpose only: To connect with G_d and connect all these things of your world along with you. The details are hidden, but the role is given in bold letters.

this rings true, but my issue is, how will I know what my true purpose is? I'm still trying to fine it.

I agree with everything you wrote, Rabbi Freeman, except... The only thing that I have a problem with is the word "purpose." If one were to use the word "job," I would totally agree. Outside of generalities such as making a dwelling place for G-d in this lower realm, or being a Chasid, anyone short of a Rebbe has no idea what his purpose is! The one thing I do know is what my current job is. If you know the secret of discovering one's purpose, please share that and we won't need anything else!

The Puzzle By Tzvi Freeman
That's pretty deep.

Yes . . . so true. I have recently come back from Israel - and during my time there, the thing that I kept repeating to myself was "I have always tried to see the whole picture, but the pieces never quite fit - now that I have reconnected to Judaism, the puzzle is complete."
With each piece comes clarity - and with each piece, the final picture deepens.
