The Escape Hatch

All of us need a small hatch through which we can climb out of our little spaceship once in a while.

So we can look at ourselves from the outside and see what is good and what needs repair and what could be put to better use. So we can look beyond ourselves and see how we compare to the vast universe. And then we can grow.

In fact, we all have just such a hatch. We don’t use it much, however. Because we are so fearful of leaving our comfortable, well-defined selves and venturing into the vast Beyond.

Based on letters and talks of the Rebbe, Rabbi M. M. Schneerson

My ESCAPE HATCH
One of my ESCAPE HATCHES is Alcoholics Anonymous and the other is JACS ( Jewish Alcoholics Chemically dependant and Significant others ). Both of them HELP me look at myself from the outside and give a spiritual way of doing that.

It's a great gift to be able to look and examine ourselves in 'retrospect.'

The Escape Hatch
When you talk about the vast beyond or venture out of one self in order to see more objectively, I sense a man who seeks himself. I would be too lonely and too much in despair to do so myself. I rather have my escape His pavilion. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. That king David is commented as a man who seeks after Adonai's heart. So I believe in seeking the Torah I see myself better and with the help of HaShem.

Re: What is the hatch?
I was about to ask this but see that the Rabbi has already answered it. Thank you!!
However, how objective are we able to be about all this?

Re: What is the hatch?
It's simply the ability given to every human being to escape his own subjectivity and take a good, clear look at himself. Where am I? What have I done with my life?
