Where in the Torah does it state that the day begins at sundown of the preceding day?

The Talmud1 asks the same question, and answers that the source is the verse: "And it was evening and it was morning, one day."2 From there the Talmud infers that the day follows the night.

Sabbath
To Anonymous:

Genesis says that God created for six days and rested on the seventh. This is why we (Jews) rest on the seventh day.

sabbath
I have been a sabbath keeper most of my life but in looking into the law I find only that it says to work seven days and rest and worship one day. Is this just an example of how we are to work? Since jewish people have had the law I want to know how saturday sabbath was established. Thank you.
