Why do we contribute money to charity before lighting candles?

Once the candles have been lit, Shabbat has begun. Since the handling of money is forbidden on Shabbat, we won't be able to practice this particular form of charity until tomorrow after nightfall. So we avail ourselves of this last opportunity. Also, as we celebrate this joyous day with our family, we are reminded of those in need.
