We open our eyes and we stand in wonder at this world,
but we do not stand on the outside with gaping mouths.

This wonder, it is our father.
We are its child.
It is our G‑d and we are its people.

The sense of wonder children feel toward creators
When someone without children starts talking to a child like it is less than half its age, for example making babytalk to a five-year-old, or explaining to a ten-year-old what a traffic light is, or telling a twelve-year-old that Santa Claus is real, have you ever noticed the expression on the child's face?

They look in bewilderment at the adult and cannot understand such strangeness. Sometimes, they seem to believe that the adult is mentally retarded and lacks the intellectual capacity to function on a more mature level. At best, they are amazed that the adult has so badly misjudged the child's own maturity.

I have that sort of relationship with G-d.

I look at the rules we are given for what to eat, when to sleep, and even which shoe to tie first, and I gaze in wonder as to why He still thinks of us as small children and does not understand that we are old enough to be allowed to make some of these decisions for ourselves.
