Simple Potato Latkes: Gluten Free

  • 4 Yukon Gold potatoes
  • ½ sweet onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ¼ tsp. salt
  • canola oil for frying


  1. Grate the onion and potatoes into a medium-sized bowl. Add the eggs and salt and mix to combine.
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. When oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of batter into the oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until outside is golden and inside is cooked through. Repeat until all batter has been fried. Serve immediately.

I also use Yukon Gold potatoes. I don't peel them to make the latkes healthier and I throw in an unpeeled zucchini. Delicious :-) Reply

Latkes No need to spend extra money on Yukon Gold potatoes. Plain old Russets are just fine (in fact maybe better.) Squeezing out the excess water after grating helps make them crisper and adding a tablespoon or two of flour or matzo meal helps hold them together better. Reply
