Pinehas Champions the Honor of G-d

Pinehas, the son of Elazar the high priest, was among those who saw Zimri's shameless conduct. In his zeal to defend the honor of the Torah, he took a spear and entered Zimri's tent. Finding the ignoble prince in the company of the daughter of a Midianite prince, he killed them both with one thrust of his spear.

By this brave act, Pinehas stopped the plague which had begun among the children of Israel, and which had taken a toll of many thousands of dead among those who had allowed themselves to be seduced by the Midianites.

Pinehas' action was rewarded by a Divine covenant of peace and everlasting priesthood.

Following the outrageous attempt by the Midianites to seduce the children of Israel into sin, G-d ordered Moses to declare war against the Midianites and smite them. In the ensuing battle not only did the five princes of Midian f all with their vanquished troops, but also Balaam, the instigator of all this trouble, was slain.

Balaam and Balak
The story of Balaam is almost confusing but that is only when viewed from the physical eye.Obviously God did not support him going to meet Balak in the first place. It is a really great warning to us all who feel that we know what's right and how to run our lives without God's loving guidance. No matter how analytical, hard-working or visionary we are about our lives or situations in which we find ourselves, there is still a question that needs to be answered,'have I taken a decision about my life that is right now and in the future (even when I have left this physical world)?'. There are certain life mysteries that we can and would never understand on this side of life, it is better to align with the originator of life, God Almighty, and to do His will rather than argue unnecessarily on things that,as I opined earlier, we just can't figure out with our finite brains. In the final judgement of Balaam, God pronounced him guilty because he refused to hearken to His warning,so be it,I agree.
