Intolerance

Intolerance lies at the core of evil. Not the intolerance that results from any threat or danger. Not the intolerance that arises from negative experience. Just intolerance of another being who dares to exist, who dares to diminish the space in the universe left for you. Intolerance without cause.

It is so deep within us, because every human being secretly desires the entire universe to himself. Our only way out is to learn compassion without cause. To care for each other simply because that ’other’ exists.

at what point is it okay for one to look at the wolrd and say, 'repairing the world' while everyone is pilling it in their own directions is beyond the ability of this world to attain? maybe after all have been given instruction with recorded life lessons of others and each fails to learn and refuses to abided in their promises resting instead upon a thing called Grace they refuse to reflect towards others.

Re: An explanation.
I can't accept the explanation entirely because I think of us as the pebbles that are skipping on top of the water where correct action keeps us on top and incorrect action removes our kinetic energy. In other words the hatred of another is something that's perceived when we're in the water. Otherwise the crashing waves have no meaning if we're above and not in them. There are many of our stories that support this theory. So-->Pray to Hashem-->Procure blessings-->Stay focussed on your holy task in this world and you will not even see or understand what these strong emotions or destructive actions are.

An explanation
All evil is an artifact of the shattering of the ideal world, "the world of Tohu". The shattered pieces become the emotions of greed, anger, lust, arrogance...all the illnesses of a fragmented world.

But the core of evil, that is fragmentation itself--the very fact that each of us takes up his or her own particular space where no one else can exist, and therefore cooperation becomes impossible, and the other is hated simply for being an other.

For more on Tohu, see Fallen Sparks.
