The Storyteller
 |
Abandon the notion that there is a world and there is a
G‑d. It is as fallacious as thinking there is a story and there is a storyteller.
There is only the storyteller, expressing himself in the story he tells. There is only the Unknowable, expressing Himself as a world.

Isn't this view of G-d borderline pantheism?

Consciousness and life - both you may call God; but you are beyond both, beyond God, beyond being and not - being.
Where there is a universe, there will also be its counterpart, which is God. But I am beyond both.
Discard all you are not and go ever deeper. Just as a man digging a well discards what is not water, until he reaches the water-bearing strata, so must you discard what is not your own, till nothing is left which you can disown. You will find that what is left is nothing which the mind can hook on to. You are not even a human being. You just are - a point of awareness, co-extensive with time and space and beyond both, the ultimate cause, itself uncaused. If you ask me "Who are you?", my answer would be: "Nothing in particular." Yet, I am.
You are the Supreme Reality beyond the world and its creator, beyond consciousness and its witness, beyond all assertions and denials.
In peace and silence, the skin of the "I" dissolves and the inner and the outer become one.

I see from the comments that this Daily Dose was presented at least as early as Nov. 2008. i didn't understand it then, and must have skipped to ask about it because it looked to complex.
Now, 3 years later i get it only because i have kept up my learning Judaism.
My understanding would be that we can see the world in which we walk, Earth. And there is a Heavenly world above. 1+1 = 2 worlds. That's logic.
But then you claim that there is 1+1 = 1 world.
It's a contradiction. You cannot have it both ways. Again, logic.
Okay, let's drop the logic. Let's even drop the thinking that is outside the box. Both take some form of logic. Only then we can see that there can be 1+1 = 1 and that 1 is One, and the only One. The world we walk is rolled into the One World.
It has taken the full 3 years to understand this particular Daily Dose. I had found out about the Ultimate Reality before now. But i did not know how to explain it till now because i did not know that 1+1 could equal only One.

Shalom and boker tov. I am extremely busy and always looking for ways to feed my soul. You are just what the "doctor ordered!" You never let me down! Today's reading was a "prime" example.: Short and Sweet. Your work provides me with the fuel to get through the day. Now I have become "addicted" to looking for your "Daily Dose" first thing every morning. I do not have the time to sit for a longtime and read, and ruminate. Although, your work is exceptional. In the shortest amount of words you are able to present very profound and deeply appreciated, spiritual material that my soul is constantly hungry for. I wish I could say more than thank you for your gifts and talents.

Okay now. I really sat up and took notice of this posting! It made me feel very good, like I did as a child on Rosh Hashanah, holding an apple and dipping challah and apple slices into honey. I hated honey, but I was a kid, and did what my teachers told me. I loved the idea that there was a "birthday of the world". And that G-d was everywhere in the world!
I'm a writer, and somewhat of a "storyteller", and yet now I realize that I only write because of a G-d-given gift. from now on,when I click the keys on my computer I feel as though my writing is only putting down on paper that which is "part of G-d's creation" and therefore, I should be giving thanks daily for such a wonderful world, flawed though it may be, by humankind's actions! For if my writing is of G-d's world, then it belongs to G-d (and me, too.) I'm writing "sharefully"! Baruch Hashem for giving me this "talent" and a world to write about!

Would that make the Torah the written version of His story and us the video version of His story? And, there is no story without a storyteller but there can be a storyteller without a story. But how would anyone know he was a storyteller unless he tells a story?

Just expressing Himself ?
The holocaust was a story we could have done without.
I often find your commentary so overly simplistic that is becomes painful.

A question arises from this idea. If there is ONLY the storyteller expressing himself through the story that is our world, then how is he Unknowable? Wouldn't he be known through each of the characters, through the scenery, through the story. If you want to know a writer, read his story ....
