Chapter 14: The Parameters of Wisdom

It is obvious that every field of study has its own framework and parameters. Though all branches of knowledge share common principles, they are not equally applicable to all sciences. Natural science can never be quite equal to the metaphysical science of the soul, let alone to Torah and the study of the Creator.

When we speak of features common to all sciences or wisdoms, we refer to an attribute such as enlightenment, for example. But the enlightenment obtained from the study of nature is, of course, not comparable to the enlightenment achieved through Torah study.

As in all wisdoms, the three schools of thought discussed above, though complementary and interdependent, have each their unique terms of reference that indicate their particular essential qualities. Moreover, since the three schools stand in ascending order, it follows that their essential qualities follow in the same order.
