The Power of Not Thinking

Thinking has a profound effect. So does not thinking.

A mind obsessed with yesterday's travesties, today's aches and pains, and tomorrow's dark clouds, creates problems where none exist. It transforms daydreams into realities, molehills into monstrosities, innocent creatures into venomous snakes. All the more so when such words pass the lips into the tangible world we all share.

That is why simply turning your back to those thoughts is such a powerful form of healing—for every sort of illness. Distract your mind to good thoughts, productive thoughts, thoughts of confidence in the One who made you, and especially thoughts of Torah.

Heal your mind and heal your soul. You will heal your body as well.

Good advice!
So true! As we say in Brazil, "an empty mind is the devil's office". Yes, we have to turn our minds to worthy thoughts, productive ones, and trust in G'd. Good warning! Thanks for sharing.

The Power of Not Thinking
Past memory can make one's today so trapped that he/she does not even know there is a tomorrow. Plus exactly like rabbi says, when those thoughts become words, the tangible world is affected. Right now I am in a tough situation when the individual does not see nor listen, and with one's own words speaking the worst. Right now I just have to retreat altogether, speak prayer unto G-d of the air I breathe and trust His supernatural.

The Power of Not Thinking
That is so true. But it's unfortunately one of those things that is easier said than done.

power of not thinking
Reading this turned my previously sour day around... leaving behind the worries about things I can't change anyway is so freeing. But this I knew... what was new to me was to focus my thoughts on G-d. Still, I wonder, just what does that mean and how does one do that?

Not thinking
What a wonderful piece of wisdom. I learned a few years ago that I could get done many things I was avoiding by not thinking about them...but just doing them. If you allow yourself to debate the process, you often lose the debate.

The Power of Not Thinking
I am so grateful that I found this on your site.
It is something that I struggle with all the time. In my desperation I purchased a book which addresses this very subject. As good as the book is I found myself searching for these concepts in a Judaic context since the book makes many references to Jesus and Buddah.
So I will continue to search you site so that I may get greater insight into the power of not thinking.
