300. Change by Doing

People are not changed by arguments, nor by philosophy. People change by doing.

Introduce a new habit into your life, and your entire perspective of the world changes.

First do, then learn about what you are already doing.

doing
Just wanting to do does not meet my personal definition of wanting to do.
Actualy doing does, if it is doable.
One might think one wants to do something, but that to me belies the fact that one KNOWS one wants to do such and such if that is what one has done, one does, and what one continues to do.

change by doing
Actually that is not normal, is it,
first to do something,
and then looking for the reason why you do it.
unless
you totally trust in the one who told you to do it.
No?
Thanks for making me think in the morning!
and even find a solution to the problem I saw.
Kol tuv lecha!

Thank you Rabbi Freeman
I have been married to a non-jew for almost 7 years, and we have two children. For the past two years I have begun to daven everyday, adding something here and there. I miss my Jewish life everday and daven to Hashem for help and guidance. I don't know how to teach my children, though I grew up Orthodox. I've also reciently started lighting candles on Friday nights, but I'm not sure how to explain it to my children...I feel like I'm in a state of limbo, and I'm not sure if this is my punishment for going off the derech...I just hope one day to be able to raise my children the proper way. I just wanted to say thank you for your beautiful words that give me strength everyday.

For Troy in Rio Rancho
Thanks for writing this. Really encouraging to know we're being useful.

Better: Get everyone together on Sunday mornings to make a minyan and trust that G_d will send a few more souls.

And call Rabbi Schmukler, our man in Albuquerque. Ask him to come out there once in a while.

I deleted this at first!
I deleted this at first and then I undeleted it.
I had just recently stopped eating meat and cheese (I had always argued that I'm not boiling a kid in it's mothers milk) when an article came to me explaining why mixing the two are not good spiritually i.e. the deeper meaning. It really made sense, and I was glad I had stopped already. I am now going to start laying tefillin every day. I have waited for guidence on how to do it and have found several videos from chabad to help me. I know that I will soon find the deeper (Highest) meaning so I am keeping this article to remind me to do this until I learn to understand!
I will also pass this on to others. I and others in my small town are barely able to make a minyon on shabbat and most are very old and in poor health (I am the youngest at 46). I will get the ball rolling with a request that we all start (daily) at home and perhaps G-d will bless us some more souls to help with a minyon!
Thank you for the encouragement!
