298. Morning Meditation

When you get up in the morning, let the world wait. Defy it a little. First learn something to inspire you. Take a few moments to meditate upon it.

And then you may plunge ahead into the darkness, full of light with which to illuminate it.

why not ?
Seemed like the perfect opportunity to trumpet/give direction to the meditative aspects of Modeh Ani.

Am not sure that your open-ended suggestion works for most, in my humble opinion.

Return of our Soul in the Morning
The world does not wait. The world moves on. Not sure what you mean by world. We stop and live the present moment. We stop our time. We are normally awakened naturally in the morning, through the spirit of God. Therefore instead of meditation, we should talk i.e. pray to God and thank HIM for our protection when asleep and return of our Soul when we awake. Light and darkness is what we make of our lives. This is based on our choices between good and evil.

Morning devotion
Zechariah 4:9 prisoner of hope is a person who has confident expectation that good things are going to happen to him or her. Yes there are troubles in this world, desperate troubles. But I should believe that HaShem works things out for my good like in case of Job. (I am a foreigner not Jewish but believe Adonai).

This is how I understand it
Darkness is something you don't know. It could be a mystery about yourself or about God. Meditation is giving you the space in time to delve into it finding in yourself the kernel of knowledge, of light that you can cultivate during the day through your actions.

Sometimes evil is just something you don't understand.

for Johana
Darkness is not necessarily sinister. Yes, there is darkness of that sort, but darkness only implies that we cannot see our way, unless we bring some light with us.

Someone who walks into his/her day without preparation is walking in darkness, reacting by impulse and without purpose. You sound like a person who carries light with her. You know why you are here, what are your priorities and how to deal with them. But there's always room for more light.

#298: Morning Meditation
Why "darkness?" Why should we think of entering a day of darkness when we are preparing for our daily chores/work and so on? I look at every day as a day of happiness, love and hope. I am grateful for every day I open my eyes and breathe and hear my children's voices. I do not feel I am entering darkness. Can you, please, explain this choice of word? Thank you.
