257. Unfinished Business

(From a letter by the Rebbe:)

You complain that peace in the home is, for you, wrought with obstacles.

All of us today are souls that have been here before. In general, we return on unfinished business. Certainly, we are all responsible for doing all the good we can, and avoiding everything harmful. But that certain unfinished business, that is where the most obstacles shall be.

And those obstacles will be your only clue as to what business you are here to finish.

My flesh (my body) is a neutral tool
My body is neither good nor bad but what I choose 2 do with my body is either good or bad, just like a hammer is neither good nor bad but what I choose 2 do with the hammer is either constructive or destructive. The same concept applies to media, education, relationships, etc... When I choose 2 use the media to induce states of calm and teach moral-character development then the media is being used 4 a productive purpose. My intellect is just like the media. I would want a relationship with a man of average intellect if he uses his intellect to create peace & compassion. I would stay far away from a genius who uses his intellect to exploit other people & animals to gratify his own physical desires.

To Nina
If we have been here before in a previous gilgul (cycle) then the people whom we were the previous time have returned to live again.

So Gd is still the Gd of the living.

If you are quoting the Xian Bible, Gilgul ("reincarnation") is the refutation of that quote.

But why call it "reincarnation" (which literally means "meat again") when we can call it by its real name, Gilgul ("recycling").

I once mentioned to a Chinese woman that we call it circles or cycles and she said in her culture they call it that too. Only in Latin is it called "Meat Again" (Reincarnation), a word which seems designed as a putdown to the whole concept. (Carne means Meat or flesh, and Xianity despises flesh, and calls itself Israel after the spirit, adding that the Jews are [merely] Israel after the flesh. But the Jews are happy to be Israel after the flesh, as that is the real Israel. And Gd loves our flesh, loves connecting with us via the physical world.

So many ironies....

When is it finished? / What do we need to finish?
Look inside of yourself. Deep inside of yourself. You know more than you are giving yourself credit for. Go deep inside of yourself, to the place beyond words and doubt, touch the essence of your own soul until you become it again, and then you will know what and when, who and how, why, and all other answers.

"Re: Nina in Australia on reincarnation"
Dear Nina,

Reincarnation is a basic, integral concept in Judaism. Jews believe in Reincarnation. It's called a "gilgul." It's nothing to be afraid of. Reincarnation is a gift. A chance to right wrongs, and bring yourself and your loved ones a little bit closer to true, lasting peace. Completion. Completion is peace. Peace is completion.

Re: souls been here before (Nina)
Reincarnation is a Jewish idea. Do a search on our site under "reincarnation" for a few articles. The classic work on the subject, "Shaar Hagilgulim" of the Ari has been translated and published by Thirty-Seven Books Publishing. It is available at Judaism.com.

Re:259.
I do my best to think positive, but how does one know when the unfinished business is finish and how do we know what was unfinished in the first place.
some events just seem to be unavoidable no matter the outcome. It always seem to be one step forward and 2 back. Don't get me wrong I love challanges. I'm grateful to G-d for my family and the inner strength in helping me be where I am today.

souls been here before
souls been here before! This sounds like recarnation. Isn't God the God of the living.
Abraham, Jacob and Issac.

Soul Circles
Metaphorically - There are "soul circles." I.E. We meet the same souls again and again, lifetime after lifetime, until we finish whatever it was we were supposed to finish in our relationships with them. The relationship carries over "from life time to life time," with the same two souls, or group of souls, meeting each other again and again, under the facade of different bodies, until we complete whatever we were supposed to complete together. In this life time I saw a man when I was 19, from across the room, and before I knew his name, or anything about him, I was absolutely certain that he would be an integral part of my life, and he has been, since that day.
