When G‑d made the world He gave each creature, each nation and each individual a role and a meaning.

When each plays its part there is harmony.
When the lines become too blurred, there is acrimony.

Like Hillel has, we are presented with a challenge without defined direction. What is the role, what will give meaning? Do those who observe the halachot have an easier time than those who do not? How do I know what is my purpose as opposed to shaped by my circumstances?

we must first have harmony within our inner wold, only then will we find it in the outer world

Roles
My "Role" is much more intimate. It is to expand my vessel to hold more of G-d's light. When I stop focusing on my vessel, my "Role", and focus on the Other...then there is acrimony.

I won't delve into the distinctions between men & women-- those are obvious. I am intrigued, however, by the Rebbe zt"l's call to us to "perform our role," to achieve "harmony." My experience is that we must seek all of our lives to find that role, to still the yearning of the neshama within ourselves, which reaches out to the cosmos and pleads, "What must I do to become whole, to fulfill my mission on earth?"

The way I see it, Islam is playing its part, blowing up the world and threatening "non-belivers" with death and destruction. Israel and the Western world is playing its part trying to deal with it. This has created harmony???

Of course, that´s right. It is like in an orchestra where every one plays an instrument ( our life), under the conduction of one conductor ( Mashiaj) who is subdued to the musical notes (Torah) composed by the Author (Hashem).

Problem is that very few people, if any, know the role, the meaning and the purpose G'd established for each of us.

Even as we try to discover our real role in this existence, we frequently bump into other people and occasionally tread on their toes.

We are like actors in a real life scenario, without a script to orient our steps and actions. However, most people ignore that what is most important on this scenario is not what we achieve but how we relate to other persons and likes. And the script is the same for everybody

G'd did not create us with a script or a users' manual, as most people would like, and even with Torah being one, that riddle may take a whole life, if not more than one, to solve, if we do not realize that what counts Above are good personal relations and not material achievements.

Perhaps there is always harmony and each creature, nation and individual are always playing their part; and perhaps the blurred lines and the bitterness are all part of the harmony. Would there be sweetness without the bitterness?
