Do not pray.

Prayer means there are two entities, one entity petitioning a higher one.

Instead of praying, connect. Become one with your Maker, so that divine energy will come through you and into our world to heal the sick, to cause the rain to fall . . .

How would a person "connect" with G-d? All my life I have " prayed" to G-d. Is there something more that I should be doing?

Unpraying/Connecting
I like this very much. This is a question/ commennt. When we need power to use a tool we plug in a cord into an outlet because we know the power we need to operate the tool is in that outlet. Once the connection is made there is power, it flows through the cord. It the cord were never disconnected Power would continue to flow. Is it possible to always stay connected to the power and live in this world and be useful to G-d? I would love to stay connected and doing the will of G-d, helping, healing, teaching, learning and loving. This is what we were created for. Is this possible in this life? Where does one start? Thank you.

Did you ever stop to think that-
thinking is a form of tefillin.

Amongst all the animals that G-d created, and all of their attributes,-

is there anything more miraculous than the human mind?

It's what separates us from the other animals, and brings us closer to being in G-d's image.

Part of the Amidah prayer involves petitioning G-d, asking G-d for what you want or need.

There is a place for petitioning G-d in Jewish prayer.

The act of petitioning something though only serves to emphathize the distance between you.

Thinking is actually more personal and upclose than that.

This maybe true at times even if your thoughts aren't particularly G-dly and/or positively inclined towards Him.

connecting
My suggestion for connecting to the divine - Find a path that goes from your external physical world into your center.

I think of my center as my DNA level.

When you find the your DNA level there is a juncture there which connects with your soul and the Divine source of your soul.

The objective is to become totally transparent to yourself so that you see the path into your center / DNA level.

The emet is true and total self-awareness.
Once achieved, the Divine is close by.

The goal is to open up a pathway to your center. When you get there, the divine will become accessible.

I have had some success finding the path to my center. After I found the path the first time it became a little easier to find it again.

Rabbi<Doctor<Psychiatrist,Addiction Specialist Dr A Twersky, retired, I believe Pittsburgh University??

Said to me when I declared my Atheism, "try praying. You're a well trained Yeshiva student". You surely remember many Blessings??" Sure", I said.

I was in a crisis mode, marriage on the rocks, career faltering, etc etc. So-o-o-I prayed every day. I laid tephillin.

I saw Twersky about a year later. So-o-o- NOOO? I told him what prayer did for this atheist idiot.

praying, connect
Does there have to be a a diametric opposite for true connection(2-1-08)? meaning a body on earth that is diametric opposite for a soul in heaven? What about a reflection not diametric opposite? What is going on in the heavens? Are we a like a shadow to it?
By connnecting to the heavens, infinite light, here we can petition to heal the sick, ask for rain to fall..We can speak the prayer for the trees, water, birds, skies. What prayer do we speak for other humans who are not praying? And not seeking connection with prayer? How does a person who is seeking connection and prayer get along with with a person who is not seeking connection this way? This is new to me to be connected with prayer so I have many questions.

Is this G-d's Revelation !
Is this G-d's disclosure of Himself ,to be with with man & His will to all creatures ?? Since we have been commanded to pray and many will never reach this higher connection and personal relationship with G-d , surely we best continue to pray for self & others too ;ultimately aiming at achieving this idealistic intimate holy relationship ;of unifying our soul with G-d and the cosmos .

Some Explanation
The English word, "prayer," means to petition. In Hebrew, there is such a word, but it is not the word we commonly use. Rather, we use the word "tefillah," which has the meaning of connecting or bonding.

So this is the principal focus of Tefillah: To be aware that you are standing before the Infinite Light Who Sustains All Reality At Every Moment and to connect and bond with that light, as you engage your soul in dialogue with Him.
