184. Under Guard

It is there inside.

Everything is there inside.

But the “I” stands guard firmly at the gate.

Great paradox?
I guess the great spiritual mystery has been posted! Who will decipher it? We must get to know ourselves in order to grow spiritually but at the same time we must give up our selves, deny the "I", in order to achieve holiness. Great paradox, indeed. We have everything inside us to reach spiritual growth and holiness but the "I" blocks the way. Is the moderate way, "golden path," the right means?

Under Guard
While reading this something came to me about my mother who has been not with me for ten years now - she has died - and the memory that I had was of a poem I wrote her about somebody in my mind that was waiting at the Gate. And she wrote a poem back to me indicating that she agreed that there is a part of you that appears at the harbor/gate of the mind and waits - but - even though I wrote this I know that G-d makes the decisions about all of our lives - He is in charge also that life is a long long individual processing of communicating through relationships. - Thanks

standing guard
the good soldier serves at the gate, allowing in those who enter with Torah and mitzvahs, repelling those who bring unrest.
