178. Your Will

If you do His will only because it makes sense to you,
then what does it have to do with Him?

You are doing your will.
You’re back in prison.

Your Will
Hope you had a good Shabbot I had a good one too. Just wanted to say you've done alot of great great work helping others in your community with your writings and I hope I never ever let you think I feel otherwise about where you stand. Here is my statement for Your Will: Everything is a test-between G-d and the devil and one has to decide what to do -that is experiencing your will-So who decides what to do to protect one against the devil then? G-d does-what about the mistakes, the regrets- don't lean too heavily on them- causes an imbalance in the system and more mistakes and regrets.

Rabbi Freeman,-
I don't want to nitpick at you on all of your commentaries, but you start with the wrong question here:

It is G-d that gave us, we human beings, the ability to make sense of things (and yes, even HIm).

You who have studied kabballah know that the mind is the 'crown'; the chochma and the bimah and the rest are only the supporting cast.

You know, Rabbi Freeman, that Jews daven (pray) standing up, and such the closest part of them to G-d while they do so are their minds.

Jews don't prostrate their minds, as do the Muslims, nor chant mind-numbing mantras, as do the Buddhists and the Hindis, nor scream and shout so they can't hear themselves think, as do so many of the Xtianists.

Jews lead with their minds, for the Talmud says (here I go again)-'a king leads with his mind, a fool with his heart'.

It was Rabbi Akiva who used to say-'it is more important to ask good questions then to have the right answers.'

There are times where it is more G-dly of us to question then to just know.

YOUR WILL
Because if we are doing His will because we love him, then we are not doing it because it makes sense to us.
It is all out of LOVE.
How about having a "love affair" with our Heavenly Father who gave us life through his precious Breath of Life, and sustains us every day out of His love for us? Blessed be His name for ever and ever!!!!

This is tricky
I find the Will of G-d is the unfolding of events and responding to it appropriately at the moment it is called for. Responding to add that illogical drop of good that will push the odds to the direction of change for the better.

Sometimes, you have to change a habitual pattern. I find this is more about transcendent acceptance of G-d's Will.

Like saying. This is what is called for right now. It does not make any sense. But the events have led me here in this point in time where I have to make this decision to let go or take action, when it is just so easy to do the opposite.

Things Around Us
Sometimes we know fairly well what makes sense for us, we know it by experience or for scientific or because of logic evidence. But there is such a lot of things and matters we don't know, and related to this portion of unknown world(s), we cannot know by ourselves whether this or that makes sense or not for us, but He, the Creator of all that, does, of course, know it. Therefore we should follow Him when He tells us what to do or not to do. But sometimes I am lazy, and sometimes things around me don't work like I would have expected them to do, and so it happens that I break... - not because I thought to have the right to do so, but because I have been too lazy or not skilled or not lucky enough.. for for instance the metrò has had two long lasting extra-stops...: that happens, but it's my fault, and I should improve.

what does it have to do with Him?
What does it have to do with Him? Well I suppose He would be the revealer of good and the teacher of good. Does that mean one would be worshiping good? possiably I suppose. However, who amoung us would worship G-d if He did only evil? Do we not love G-d because he is good thus making him worthy of love, praise, fear and obedience? or do we love G-d simply because he is there (i.e. He exists) and He is powerfull?

I don't particularaly care for this saying because it makes me feel like I shouldn't do commandments that make sense to me.

Now, I think it was mammonides who advocated bribing children (candy, money etc) until eventually they would come around and do the commandments for a right reason.

So if someone is doing a commandment I don't think it wise to chastize them because they are not doing it out of love or fear for G-d. Rather I think one who does a commanment should be encouraged.

His will
I am confused in this way,
are we not supposed to do His will, and if we do His way, we are still in prison???
Please someone explain to me what is really meant by doing GD's will.

Will....
Is that not a hugely dangerous statement? Its when something makes sense that its possible to verify its goodness of intent.
To move blind puts one in the possible position to take orders from madmen or maybe even sick areas of the self.... Blanket statements such as those that you often make must be taken with so much salt..... It makes me think and wonder if you are working for the subjugation of soul or celebration G-d's gift's. I cannot really make it out. Or is it that you feel (as mediaeval's Christians did) that the only way to be truly "divine" and "in the service" is to walk on a path of suffering?
