Hundreds of letters arrived daily to the Rebbe asking for advice and blessing in medical matters. That there were miracles is undisputed. Gather together ten Jews anywhere in the world and one will have a story about a friend, a relative or perhaps his or her own self to whom a miracle of the Rebbe occurred.

But the Rebbe didn't want to make a religion out of miracle healing. With almost every response, he gave practical advice, generally encouraging people along a spiritual path together with a wise medical one. Here are a few of the more typical responses:
