87. Cleaning Up

Everyone has his share of “not good.” It’s impossible that a physical being should be devoid of faults. The point is not to flee or hide from them. Nor is it to resign yourself to it all. It is to face up to the fact that they are there, and to systematically chase them away.

Recognizing who you are and gradually cleaning up your act—it may look ugly, but it is a divine path.

Based on letters and talks of the Rebbe, Rabbi M. M. Schneerson

Facing problems
This puts to mind all the things I take to be a stumbling block or a great brick wall, things that are simple for everyone else- just another part of life and living through the day. But many of those things can be an astronomical discomfiture to any one person who identifies as being different from the crowd. The ideal thought I've had to put to mind is that I have to get over it, go through it and do it and then it will be over. It doesn't always work, hardly ever works, but I know it will be over at some point and then I can concentrate on putting my energy else where.

Everyone
It is more of a divine path if you live in one.

Tests And Trials
Every human has flaws and faults. It is in realizing our flaws and faults that changes on the human level can be made possible. Our not so good day are the trials we bear, they are tests that we go through so that if we learn from them we can move on to different trials and learn and move on in them as well. The path of the Divine is and always will be the standards of HIS Word to us. These standards create boundaries for us to follow and succeed on our ways through these trials.

"Come unto Pharoah" - help to cleanup
Our natural desires prohibit us from annullling self-love - we are forced to calculate each act for our benefit. We are unable to serve another as self.

Each time we reveal our evil motives G_d advises us to ask Him to "Come unto Pharoah"- to request help from Him against the pharaoh controlling us within.

Then when we think we are clear of this monster,G_d "hardens the heart of Pharoah" He puts more difficult obstacles in our way for us to reveal deeper levels of our bad intentions to others. Each of us has to refine our qualities until they align with G_dliness and we achieve unconditional love.

Honesty
This strikes a chord. While cleaning up my act, I now say, "It may not be pretty (where I find myself at times), but I'm responding from being honest with you and myself."

Cleaning Up
We can't chase away who we are. Perhaps what we need to do is simply accept and love all aspects of ourselves and know that we need all parts of ourselves to be whole. When we can be so accepting and loving of ourselves, then we may find that it follows that we are as loving and accepting of others.

Cleaning up
It is hard sometimes to admit that you've done something wrong to someone close to you -with me it was my sister-and I had to admit to myself that I DO things that are imperfect-and this was a delicate issue with me-I find the more you build a wall around yourself and say I am perfect the harder it becomes when you realize-merely that you are not perfect-which is what happened to me-Thank you for writing this.

judgements
The challenge is what to do with the share of "not good" in the people around me and yes its impossible that a physical being should be void of faults. Its easy to become judgemental and make demands about how the other person should be.
Noticing my own judgements and demands,I can choose to drop them because they only get in the way of the unconditional love I am striving to acheive to bring Moshiach.
