Techiles (blue thread)
The blue thread that some people attach to their Tallis Katan or Tallis Gadol is called techiles. The reason that some people have a blue thread is because either they were not educated on the matter or they believe that an animal that when crushed produces a blue dye is in existence. Most Torah authorities believe that either the animal has gone extinct or is not able to be located. Also many people believe that when Messiah comes, the animal will be revealed and we will wear a thread of blue (techiles).
