It was Shabbat morning, November 29, 2008, one day after the siege at the Mumbai Chabad House ended and the news of the murder of the Holtzbergs and their guests was broadcast around the world.

In Atlanta, GA, Mr. Yaakov Citrin approached Rabbi Yossi Lew, the local Chabad-Lubavitch emissary, and told him that his wife had yesterday given birth to a baby girl. Mr. Citrin received an aliyah to the Torah and named his daughter after Rivkah Holtzberg.

A few days later, on Tuesday, the day of Gabi and Rivky's funeral in Israel, in the Crown Height section of Brooklyn, Levi and Rivky Wilhelm celebrated the brit milah (circumcision) of their son, born to them eight days earlier. The boy was named Gavriel Noach.

These children named after Gabi and Rivky Holtzberg were followed by many more. According to the estimate provided by the parents of the slain couple, to date of the writing of this article in honor of the first anniversary of the couple's untimely demise, nearly 500 children carry the names of Gabi and Rivky.

Chani Lifshitz of Katmandu, Nepal, addresses the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Women Emissaries in February 2009.

The above list is incomplete. For example, we know that on that same Tuesday when the funeral was held, two circumcisions were celebrated in Kiev, Ukraine, with both boys given the name Gavriel Noach. We don't however have their full names or pictures.

We request of anyone who has information regarding other children named after the Holtzbergs to share the information with us, so that we can share it with the world.

To conclude with a fascinating story:

On Tuesday, November 25, 2008, the day before the terrorists invaded the Mumbai Chabad House, Rivky Holtzberg was talking to her dear friend Chani Lifshitz, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch in Katmandu, Nepal.

Chani was pregnant at the time, and Rivky assured her friend that she would come to Nepal when she gave birth to celebrate and help take care of her newborn child.

The child, a girl, was born on April 2nd. Her name is Rivky Lifshitz. Without a doubt, Rivky Holtzberg was there with Chani when she gave birth...

What Greater Legacy
I can think of no finer legacy for Gavi and Rivky than the multitude of precious Jewish children who will grow up knowing that they were named for such precious, loving souls. G-d's blessings on all our children.

LIfe after Death
The story is told of a childless couple who supported Torah scholars.

Later the Baal Shem Tov took his disciples to a town which everyone (i.e. the children) all had the same names, with the explanation that they were named after the donor.

Although Rivky and Gabi lived for too short, their life after passing will be eternal - kindled by the spark of Jewish identity found within the fellowship felt between Jews.

Every act of terrorism only inspires - ironically terrorism does far more eternal good than temporary damage.

Life after Life
It is obvious from the response of the Jewish world that Life and the living is the greatest testimony we can give our passed friends and family.(May they rest in peace). May G-d bless their name sakes, with love and fill their hearts with charity.
