A Lightful Meeting with an Injured Israeli Soldier

"I had a bad feeling," he tells me, "I saw in their eyes the sudden realization: this is real. This is thighs shattered, limbs detached...this is war."

I am inspired!
After reading, many many times, Bronya Shaffer's description of her interaction with the soldiers at a conference I searched for more of her articles. I was delighted to find this one. Gal Orr is one of the heroes of the Gaza war and was given very little recognition. My nephew's best friend fought with him and its true as s he says his soldiers loved and revered him.
This article is important. It's not like most newsarticles that are fact without feeling. Bronya Shaffer gives us the facts of what happened but shows us a real human being with a wife and a mother.
I agree that this should be on the front pages of Chabad.org. I also found it because I was searching for it. I feel it's important to be available right away.
Please give us more from Shaffer specially her writing about soldiers!

We feel the pain deep in our soul and it emanates to the very surface of our skin. The tears pour down our face and we connect with the anguished through our own personal experience of devastation.
The author describes a scene so vivid that you might have been right there with her. Her words- penned from the soul, pierce right through it. Thank you, Mom, for reminding me that pain is only good as a raw material. I vow to make something out of this awakening.

Who is like Your nation Israel...

Thank you, Mrs. Shaffer, for sharing this stirring experience with us readers. It brought tears to my eyes and allowed me, if but for a moment, to empathize with the pain and be comforted by the light of these holy soldiers.

May we affect a world where we will know of war no more.

Incredible! Gal Or is a present day Jewish hero. Thank you for telling us his story. I'm going to print this and show it to my group of big brother-little brother meeting.

this wave of life...
I read this -- and I cry for him, for the other boys, the children, for Israel.
And I will cry a long time.

wave of light
Thank you for 'shining a light' on the young men, the sons of Israel, who bravely defend all of us.

Thank you for making these soldiers real to those of us who can do little except to be very very grateful that they are fighting for us. I'm glad that Chabad supports the soldiers and does not ignore or trivialize their contribution.

Commander Gal Orr is a hero of the Jewish people. Our boys sacrifice their life for our security. This is a most moving piece about just one soldier who is an example of the best of our nation. How many tears must be shed before we are allowed to live in peace??

This is a wonderful story. Gal Orr deserves our thanks and honor. The writer makes him real for us like he's my brother.
