I couldn't find escolar on either the kosher or non kosher list
Does it go by another name ?

Re: Macruronus novaezelandiae
Any fish not included in this list must be checked while it's still whole and uncooked to determine if it has scales that can be removed without tearing the skin.

And of course, even if it is originally kosher, once it was cooked in non-kosher utensils (as I would imagine those at Whole Foods are), it is no longer kosher.

Re: Whiting's Diet
The diet of a fish (or any animal for that matter) is not what determines its kosher status.

Whiting's Diet
My sister opened a freezer bag of commercial, "wild caught / skin on" whiting today. The back of the bag reads in part: "They feed on crab, shrimp and other crustaceans." Your posting guidelines indicate maybe I shouldn't post the brand.

To Francis in Mexico
To repeat: Any fish not listed here needs to be examined by the consumer to determine if the scales can be removed without tearing the skin. If the scales come of easily, the fish is kosher.
