too many complex "rules" . the Mashiach doesnt need to be jewish, in fact, such a person would transcend such rigidity . you speak of a new time of humanity, but want it to be like the old time....

That is good information about the Moshiach, but the fact is not that Moshiach will be created as we create a cake, where we know what will be in it and how much time will be needed to cook it.
Only the God knows the truth about the Messiah, Moshiach.
Are you 100% SURE tha Moshiach will be exact as you writte here?
How can you know what God is going to do, create? Are you God or instand of God?
To me Messiah will be a world teacher or helper. He will have a mission to come for the whole Humanity to change and transform it by leading the Humanity to the missing for which the Man was created;
to rebuil and perfect the Earth,the Temple which God builed and humans destroyed.
This is what I se in Messiah, for whom the whole world, all Humanity has talked about in their own thoughts and feelling. Still God is the one who knows how will Messiah be.

Israel is not like the rest of the nations (Am Segula or special) because G-d chose us to serve him. They are ready to serve but how can you serve when you need eyes to see the light coming? So that is what is needed, the eyes, not Moshiach.
There is a tradition that Elijah the prophet will come to the world and announce the imminent arrival of Mashiach. However, according to other opinions, Mashiach may arrive unannounced. Elijah would then arrive to assist in the peace process. Some suggest that if the Mashiach arrives in his predestined time then Elijah will announce his arrival, but if Mashiach comes suddenly then Elijah will appear after Mashiach has come. But they can be One. Which one we see? Can we see what we can not see?

I have just recently come to learn of the Jewish Mashiach. I am intently studying Torah and Kabbalah wisdom.
You know how you just know that something is truthful?
I am referring to the "End of Days" event. I do believe that we are initially into this event.
Wars, rumors of wars, evil of all kinds, shapes and forms, weather woes, animals behaving in confounding ways.
Mankind seems bent on having its "own" way yet with this divine knowledge that this kingdom, as we know it, is changing forever to G-d's Kingdom where He will make His home is very heartwarming and fills the soul with joy.
And the part where all of us have an obligation (a joyful one-one we look forward to fulfilling) to make this world a dwelling place for the Most High is truly wonderful.

Mashiach is not the hebrew word for messiah. Messiah is the english word for mashiach. Because the word mashiach came first. Messiah is a transliteration of it.

As a Jew who is trying to connect to his people and heritage, the problem I have with your postulations is the same problem I have with most religions as they are often presented: "Our way is the only true way".
You also state that, "There is a small bone in the body called the Luz bone (some identify this bone as the coccyx) from which the body will be rebuilt at the time of resurrection." What about the many good Jews who have been cremated?
Also, out of the hundreds of millions of Jews that have died over the past 5,000+ years, how can they all fit in Eretz Yisrael? Will there be room?

When Elijah comes how will we recognize him?

Those who made such a claim about themselves would ultimately have to prove it to everybody else. Perhaps by not making a self-proclamation Elijah is aldeady walking amongst us right now. Would any one really notice? Maybe he'll come as a comedian, and really shows us all how to lighten up, I though he was pretty good when he told those priests of a pagan deity, "Hey! Maybe if you hollered alittle louder he'd wake up?", and," Maybe he went on vacation! You could alsmost see The Prophet lounging with a piece of straw clenched between his teeth, before he showed them the truth. He will not fit the expectations of all the religions, and denominations. In fact they've probably tried to kill him, or imprison him if they know who he is today...

The comments posted representing the thoughts of some are perhaps some reasons in and of themselves for the delay in Moshiach's coming. Belief and faith are very clearly an integral part of the coming of Moshiach now. Perhaps if just one person decided today to believe or to do a mitzvah that could be the one person needed to make it happen.

Once again, fantastic information about something I really crave information about. The more I learn, the less I fear the afterlife. (For some reason I have always feared the UNKNOWN). This information helps, however I like to believe until that time, when we die, we do go to "heaven" and are reunited with our relatives instead of staying in the ground.(souls).

What makes everyone so sure that Mashiach will be male? Is it not the oppressed who have a deeper sense of truth/enlightenment? And who is oppressed in our society today? Certainly not men...

What makes everyone so certain of the gender of Moshiach?
Scriptures call him, a king, and not a queen.
a female monarch is called a queen even if she is not married. Therefore, because a female monarch is not a king, and the scriptures call Moshiach, a king; He would obviously be a male. As far as oppression, the male is most often repressed, having been taught to shut down emotionalism from their youth. Gender roles are often taken on because of false tradition, and false evidence appearing real (FEAR). Most humans when in fear will either flee or fight. If that fear is an inward one the fight can be made difficult if that person is in denial of those fears. They can lash out at others who are simply trying to advise, or who are actually concerned for them; if they refuse to deal with what is bugging them. repressed memories can also affect the situation. Men are therefore oppressed by their own repressed emotions which they are not taught to exhibit. A prison w/o bars.

The English letters "Mo/aschiach" haven't been with us long enogh to make Oxford's dictionary. Messiah entered the tongue in the early 17th century. The distraction of English vowels keeps us from seeing the spiritual formula.
It keeps English speakers from considering the spiritual difference between the formulas Mem Sheen Chayt(40 300 8 and Mem Sheen Hay 40 300 5 which is given the English "translation" Moses.

"Moshiach" / "Mashiach", which one is correct? I have seen websites that use both spellings, so which one is right? Is one Aramaic and one classic Hebrew, or what?

Both are correct and a matter of pronounciation, Jews of ashkenazic descent pronounce the kamatz vowel which is under the M of Moshiach/Mashiach as an 'oh', while Jews of Sefardic descent and modern Hebrew speakers pronounce it 'ah'.

the O and A are often interchangible based on Hebrew pronunciation because it is actually neither exactly and O nor an A and the pronunciation of the vowel can actually change depending upon context. So in Hebrew it would be spelled the same way but some might pronounce Mashiach and some Moshiach, the correct pronunciation seems to be somewhere in between.

Thanks for the information. I especially appreciate the history behind the use of "Moh" and "Mah". I find the Hebrew language fascinating, and really think the only way to get the full depth of the teaching from the Torah and/or Tanak, requires a understanding of the Hebrew language. So often the English transliterations/translations loses some of the depth of the scriptures.

I found this incredibly interesting and it helped to increase my knowledge. Rabbi Dubov certainly knows how to hit the nail with his verbal hammer! Always enlightening, and strengthening. How blessed are his family, friends and congregation to that he is always there, teaching, encouraging, making Judaism seem not difficult, but a goal to reach for, a flame lit to light the darkness of non or mis understanding!

When he dies what will happen?
WIll there be another Moshiach to take over?
Will the world go back to the way it was?

Once Moshiach comes, things will never revert to their previous state.
So what will happen if he passes away? Moshiach is a king who will restore the Davidic dynasty. If he would pass away, his position would be inherited by his son, and then his son after him.
At a certain time during the messianic era, the dead will be resurrected. At that time, those who live will live forever. Assuming that Moshiach is still alive when this happens, he will not pass away and would therefore not be replaced.

Once Moshiach comes, and the world enters the Messianic era, it will never revert back to how it is during the present time.

Didn't Moses write that " ...It is not in heaven that some one must go and get it for you, and it is not buried in the ground that some one else needs to dig it up for you."?? Moses wrote It is near YOU, it is on your tongue, and on your heart to DO it.
Love one another as G-d loves us. Can you do this? That is Moshiach. You don't have to wait, just do it.

No. We don't have to wait, but we can prepare for him everyday. Live in expectation of him. I deployed to Iraq with my Tallis and tefillin with me, and clothes for the way over to the holy land when moshiach comes. It's more than waiting. It's living in the expectation. It's anticipation.

Dovid Dubov is indeed a spiritual person, I am enriched by his wisdom. I am a christian but know the beginnings and beauty of the Christian origin. Within the deepest spiritual meaning of our religion, I always felt the teaching is that the almighty G-d is our true redeemer and savior and that all references to some human being as the messiah are strictly done in a symbolic manner to attempt to fashion a way to behave toward one another and to be better people in general. I firmly believe that we Jews shall not be abandoned on the threshold of eternity for not accepting the Christian or Islamic version of prophetic fulfillment. Our very sacred tradition engendered the concept of 'moschiach' as someone anointed or literally smeared on with oil--and surely it is not the oil under the earth over which wars are being fought in the cradle of civilization and beyond. In the days of the messiah the world will know peace and not have the Jews as some perverted sacrificial lamb in the bone yard of humanity in the final scene from some Armageddon countdown--we need to dis-armageddon, defuse that rhetoric and rise up as G-d’s holy beacon

I recently read a magazine article about a prophecy that the 'end of the world' will be in 2012. It was made by some tribe totally cut off from the rest of the world (sorry I can't be more specific). The article mentioned the coming of Moshiach at that time, which is why I researched the topic here.
Considering the 'world recession' and traumas of the world happening at the moment, according to Dubov's explanation, it makes sense that the time of Moshiach may be just around the corner.
i always thought that Moshiach would be a spirit, but never thought he/she would be in human form. This individual could be among us right now!

I find it difficult to accept everything in the bible as exact or to take it literally. I think humans have grown and progressed to the point where we realize that not everything in the bible is meant to be taken literally. I believe a lot is symbolic and often open to various interpretations. There are even sects with Judaism who don't believe in the state of Israel because it was not established by the Messiah! We are sufficiently intelligent enough to be able to discern what is fact and reality and not necessarily accept the dreams. fairy tales or all the prophesies of the bible.

no, a woman cannot be a messiah , the verse says "som tasim.... melech" (place upon yourself a king). Our sages say "a king, not a queen."

Greetings. I was reading in Daniel, and it appears that his prophecies give a good timetable for the coming of Messiah.
Dan 9:24-25 tells us that from the command to restore Jerusalem until Moshiac, there shall be 69 sevens of years, or 483 years. And then after that, he shall be 'cut off'. Could you help me with this, please? The command to rebuild Jerusalem did occur under Artexerxes in Neh 2.

The general consensus among the commentators is that seventy sevens (weeks) refer to 490 years. Those are the seventy years in between the two temples and the four hundred and twenty of the second temple, when the Jewish people suffered as a subservient nation as opposed to the independent nation that they had been.
This was a punishment for the Sabbatical years about whose laws they had been lax. It is for this reason that the years of the punishment are calculated in sevens.

It's in Ezikiel. I believe somewhere between chapter 36 and 38. I'll have to look it up for you.

The shemen hamishcha/anointing oil was hidden along with the ark of the covenant in the time of King “Hezekiah” as described by the Rambam in Hilchot Beit Habechira 4,1. The Gemora also states that when the Ark of the covenant was hidden, the jug of mana, the anointing oil, and Aaron’s staff were hidden as well. It is said King Hezekiah hid these items prior to the destruction of the first Temple. When the second Temple was rebuilt the ark of the covenant as well as the anointing oil was no longer part of Temple service. When the Jewish people returned from Babylonian exile the priest were not “anointed” but wore eight garments in remembrance in place of the anointing oil. The ark of the covenant must be found and this special oil whereby Moshiachn is anointed. No oil=no Messiah!

This is quite clear in Isaiah 2:2-3:
"And it shall be at the end of the days, that the mountain of the L-rd's house shall be firmly established at the top of the mountains, and it shall be raised above the hills, and all the nations shall stream to it.
And many peoples shall go, and they shall say, "Come, let us go up to the L-rd's mount, to the house of the God of Jacob, and let Him teach us of His ways, and we will go in His paths," for out of Zion shall the Torah come forth, and the word of the L-rd from Jerusalem."

Thanks M Posner. What is clear from that passage is that all the nations shall stream to the house of the Lord, and there all will be taught. Perhaps i am missing it, but where does it say that the temple will be constructed by Him?

When Moshiach will come, the Jewish Kingdom will be in the entire area promised to Abraham. How does this relate to the current borders of the State of Israel? Well, let's just say that when the British carved up the territories, they did not use the Bible as their guide.

THere is a source in the Talmud, Sanhendrin 98 which states that if Moshiach comes from the dead (and will be resurrected), he will be like Daniel.
See also Rambam, Hilchos melachim Ch 11 and 12 which rules out the possibility of Moshiach being killed but does not rule out the possibility of Moshiach passinga away and being ressurected. Hope this answers your question.

I read this above and know that some of us believe that there is a specific person in every generation and when the all the world accepts this person there will soon begin an era of peace.
This indicates that there is some latitude, or freedom of belief within "the Jews."

Well... all we can do is wait and see who is who. G-d has already written the story to this chapter. I can, with great joy and happiness, accept G-d on this kind of decision. As a human beings (including everyone, me as well) we must learn to keep our hands off this subject mentally and physically. I just wish that maybe we need to see everyone at the dinner table. We should be able to talk about many thing together. Moshiach is not something we con predict but something that might just make us do better for people in the here and the right now. So study even harder, "I am one to talk," to make a reasonable conversation on a great subject.

I am not sure if a human could represent the qualities associated with Moshiach. Mostly, because humanity is flawed, and there is a preponderance to be socialized into a human culture group that directs attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. All of which may be influenced by stereotypes.
The only one that could fulfill such a role would be G-d. And I'm significantly reluctant to refer to G-d by assigning a gender, as I would equally be for the designation of Moshiach.
Not that there are not representations of good people here on Earth...I don't think they have the true understanding and dedication though it would take to fulfill the expectations of Moshiach, as there are too many 'outside' and 'human' forces that influence them.

Thanks for writing things like this, although today I observe very little, but as a kid I went to see the Rebbe for kos shel brocha after Shavuos. My family was not Lubavitch yet everyone loved the Rebbe and looking at his videos it seems that he loved everyone as well. It's a visit like that and sites like this that can keep the spark of me being a Jew lit for a long time even though I am far from even remotely behaving like a Jew should, thanks for this site!
