Why was Tanya chosen as the name of the text?

Our small Jewish Community in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, "SHALOM SMA", is learning Kabbalah, starting with the Tanya of R. Zalman. We include in our community any Jew who wishes to learn with us, as well as some Gentiles who join with us. Our religious services follow inclusive Conservative Minhag, we celebrate all the holy days; we are blessed with Jewish scholars. Please accept our gratitude for your organizations' worldwide work.

Lessons In Tanya has changed my life. I grew up in a very small lubavitch community in Colorado where there was NO Chassidus. Tanya has really opened my eyes. I am starting a Tanya class every shabbos, with G-d's help, to teach other people the wealth of holiness and spirituality.

Why was Tanya chosen as the name of the text?
Ever wounder why many of the leading Rabbis and Talmedia Chachamim today are at best not actively leading our desire for immediate redemption? And at worst are working against it?
We are tought that there is a very powerful and destructive angel who attacks learned Jewish scholars, creating in them a complete disinterest in the Geula!
This destructive angel is called "Tanya".
The Ba'al HaTanya named his entire text "Tanya" in order to help counter the effects of this destructive angel.

I have been studying the Tanya for about 2 1/2 years now.
The concepts I like best are those that help me overcome my evil inclination.
It also does a great job explaining tzimzum and other concepts.

All my life I have tried to find the meaning of my first name, but to no avail. Now I find out that I actually have something that I am named after. I would like to read this, as I am now intrigued.
Thank you.

Tanya is the first word of the first chapter. Although it’s official name is Likutei Amorim, it is lovingly called by its first word. Calling it Tanya is a form of endearment. Analogous to calling the Lubavitch Chabad world headquarters by its address, 770.
