Alienation and Faith

We detect two tendencies of thought on the place of alienation and loneliness in the Jewish analysis of the emotions. To state this contrast is not to formulate an opposition; simply to open another gate...

This was an excellent essay, I'd never read something that so distinguishes between the "undivided mind" of a Chassid and the Modern Orthodox Jew (not said in a pejoritive way) and Litvak par excellance Rav Joseph B. Soloveitchik. I'm not sure in which camp I philosophically belong to, but welcome this new contribution to the subject and look forward to viewing more essays of this kind here.

A essay that demonstrates that jewish people can envelop themselves in secularism. Furthermore it demonstrates how intrinsic the Torah is in every field of Philosophy, Psychology, Theology, Sociology. The Torah is presious so we should cherish it

Alienation
This article is an intellectual and literary "mumbo-jumbo" by an author who does not comprehend the sorrow, pain and futility of true alienation in a global society.

Excellent article
This is an excellent article, but not for an uneducated ignoramus to read (as is neither Tanya nor Rav Soloveitchik's works). I don't believe the last two posters understood what the article is about, however.

At the end of the day, the question is: is a Jew a son of Adam/Noah and son of Abraham together, or is a Jew just a son of Abraham? Should the gentile nature of a Jew be addressed (should he get secular education for the sake of knowing this world?) together with the Jewish nature, or should it become subservient to the Jewishness (only know about the world what helps you to keep Torah and bring Moshiach). The first approach is that of a Modern Orthodox Jew; the second one is that of a true Chabad Chassid.

Sometimes it's important to look deeper towards essence.
