MORDECHAI THE GENERAL

Mordechai was not only the leader of the
Jews in Persia. He was also a general in
Achashveirosh’ army! Since he was so highranking, he did not have to bow down before Haman. But he never claimed this privilege. He always said, “I bow to no man, only to Hashem. And I’m proud, so proud to be a Jew.”

Meam Loaz

TEARS THAT SHAKE AND QUAKE

Why do earthquakes occur? The Talmud says that when G-d thinks of
the Jewish people suffering in exile, two tears drop, and when they hit the ocean, the earth rumbles and shakes.
Berachos 59a

mORDECHAI GATHERED THE CHILDREN

When the Jewish people in Shushan were in danger, Mordechai gathered thousands of children and taught them Torah, specifically, about the barley offering (the Omer) that used to take place in the Temple in Jerusalem. The Omer was brought on the 16th of Nissan, the 2nd day of Pesach. And on that very day Haman was hung!

NAMING THAT TREE

Every person’s name can be found in the Torah. When G-d asked Adam if he had eaten the forbidden
fruit, He said, “HaMin Ha-Eitz Ochalta? Did you eat from the tree?” The word ‘HaMin’ is spelled exactly the same as ‘Haman’ a hint that he
would be hung on a tree for his sin.
Beraishis, 3:11
