so grateful for chabad because no matter what I may be doing, they always keeps me connected
until there is one slave in the world we are all slaves
until there is one war in the world we are all at war
until all men will be liberated and no man will be at war freedom cannot be celebrated
love the other because he is like yourself the 'other' means all men and not only those referred to as jews
until you bring inside your skin all that is out you do not know who you are and you cannot be free
Pesach: freedom versus connectivity work versus rest oppression versus hope subservience versus emancipation escape versus manifestation ordained versus free will love
I sure enjoyed this email. I learned more about all that is celebrated during Passover.
I really think that Chabad is a terrific organization because it really reaches out to all Jewish people.
What an excellent verse. I am a non- Jew who loves to study the festivals of Gods chosen peoples. We want to hear more Jewish people who are truly religious, to open their hearts and minds to religious non- Jews. I am no longer a ch---tian now because a Jewish person shared the teachings of Judaism with a group of Ch---tians. I and my husband praise G-d every day for him because he shared his Jewish heritage. These actions may bring some negative results but the strong allies that come about will bring the world closer to the "Olam Habah" (world to come) Isn't that what we all desire??? God bless America- God bless the 70 nation. Yee--Haw!!!!
I find your Chabad E-mails enrich my life tremendously.
I am not jewish myself but have a tremendous amount of jewish friends . What would be the correct way and what should I say to them, to wish them over the Pesach time ?
sorry guys, the universe is not 5000 years old. try 13.7 billion.
Thank you for this site. I enjoyed learning about Passover.
Why does some say Passover begins Nisan 15th when Exodus 12 says begins Nisan 14th-?
The Paschal Offering was brought on the 14th, and then eaten, together with matzah and bitter herbs, later that evening, which is the 15th. (In Jewish tradition, the new date commences with nightfall.)
The fact that Passover begins on the 15th -- the anniversary of the date when the Jews actually left Egypt -- is clearly expressed in Leviticus 23:6.
I really like this website and all the information that it provides. It gives a non-Jew a great deal of insight on Passover. I am a Christian and I believe that there is no sense in serving the God of the Jews if you do not have a good understanding of His chosen people, the Jews. I feel like now I can relate a little more with the Jewish people that live in my community.
Thanks for your kind and informative email.I am a Christian, believing that knowledge shared is knowledge doubled. Thanks again for exposing me to such rich heritage.
It just isn't...anymore than the current calendar we all use...2009? come now...let's not spew forth a know it all, proud, arrogant attitude. That defeats the purpose of this wonderfully, informational page.
The traditional greeting is a Happy Passover.
Excellent, pithy history about Passover. A great, historical event for Jewish people everywhere.
good job describing the meaning of passover. i learned a lot!
Thank you for writing this detailed description of how to celebrate Passover, it really helped me to be able to complete my project easier.
im a Christian girl who did not have a clue about any Jewish holidays and this page made my project so so so much easier and more joyfull:) Thanks so much!
Thank you for such descriptive detail and explanation
it was a very descriptive article about passover and it really has helped me., especially if im doing a project in a short amount of time. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for this web page. I had to get information for my granddaughter and this was exactly what she needed

I am a Black female Christain whose Mom was asking me about the signifance of the holiday--peace be unto you
I have a friend who was visiting a Jewish friend of hers who mentioned something about leaving their door open and placing a table setting for Elijah. Can you also discuss this. Many blessings to you and your family.
Thank you! Indeed, according to Jewish tradition, the prophet Elijah visits each home on the Seder nights. For more information about this custom, please see: Opening the Door for Elijah.
from reading this, i learned a lot of stuff. I now understand passover and its importance. I wish you a wonderful passover!
it is really good for kids if ppl sent it or gave it to them they could even read it by the pesach table if they wanted to
I am a Italian Catholic so I have always been intrigued by the Jewish faith and holidays, this was a wonderful explanation. Enjoy Passover!
Thank you, this has helped educate me. I have adopted a child who has a jewish biological great grandfather. She has always been interested even before we were aware of the history.
i had to write 15 facts on passover and this helped me sooo much! Thank you
I have a Jewish friend and wanted to acknowledge this special time. Do you wish them Happy Passover. What is the right thing to say?
This was very concise and helpful.
Thank you, Chani Benjaminson—I wasn't sure of the proper greeting either. This is such a useful site! I'm attending my third Seder tomorrow with wonderful friends and am always moved by this tradition. Happy Passover to you!
Why is Passover celebrated for eight days?
this is awsome i love this web site
Very educational and enlightening. Thank you.
No offense, but... that picture is really strange. I'm Jewish, so, please don't think this an attack on Jews, I was just saying.
Thank you this was very helpful. I work for a company now that all the owners are Jewish. I learned most of this from the Bible growing up, but I had no idea that this was Passover.
This must be a very confusing time of year for children. I really wish that religion could be addressed in public schools so that people could really understand the connections between Christianity and Jedaism (also Islam) and then, maybe, there would be more understanding and yes, the dreaded word...tolerance
What is the corresponding month/dates in our everyday calender?
Thank you. I also work for a Jewish owned company. It is nice to know that the first two days and the last two days are non working days. It is also nice to know that Passover is celebrating the freedom that God gave to them. I would however like to learn more about why the holiday is 8 days and what the 8 days represent.
The Jewish calendar follows a luni-solar cycle, every year the holidays coincide with different dates on the Gregorian calendar, you can check out our online calendar for the dates in detail.
I have always wondered about if passover is always on the same day of the week every year.
Does it have any connection with full moon?
Passover is the 15th day of the Hebrew month. The Hebrew months begin when the new moon is "born." Thus the the 15th of the month is always at (or around) the full moon.
Explaining Passover to my 11 year old
I have a Jewish friend and I wanted to know what is Passover and why do they celebrate it now that I have read this I know what it is and what its all about thank you
Biblically it states that passover is the 14th day after the 1st day of the new year. Is the jewish new year the first day of spring, marked by the spring equinox? If so, wouldn't that make passover April 5th?
I thank you for your informative explanation of Passover, and its celibration. The detail helps me, a Christian, more fully understand the celebration of the Jewish freedom from slavery. God bless them!
this is very good. it helps to understand this season of festivities.
Hi, some follks may not know how to pronounce some of the words, new to them. Maybe breaking them into sounds would help, put in brackets, would help. Thank you for this consideration.
This is so so so so so so great!
This is in answer to Anonymous of Chicago. The Passover date that's observed is different every year, although it usually takes place in April. Every year Passover date is determined according to the Jewish calendar, which varies every year as it is based on the positions of the moon.
Thank you for this post - here in South Africa, a beautiful full moon greets the festival..blessings to all!
I loved this explanation of passover. Not being a jew I had little knowledge of what passover really meant. Thanks to the internet and time posted by someone I now have a better understanding behind the beauty of the holiday. Thanks so much.
i found out alot about pass over and i also now know way more than i did thanx to this
I´ve enjoyed very much reading this article about Passover. It is a precious holiday and I´m glad the Jewish people are so respectful with their traditions.
This is a great and well done web page.
I´m Christian and I have good Jewish friends. I´m blessed with their friendship.
Shalom from Spain and have a nice holiday!
It is indeed heartwarming that so many non-Jewish people have expressed their appreciation of our holiday and traditions. With the fighting in Israel and the anti-Semitism that still exists in the world, these posts were like a breath of fresh air. Thank you to all our Christian friends who have delighted in knowing more about Passover.
So I was reading a blog and someone mentioned that passover was a sick holiday because the jewish people were celebrating the death of the egyptian first born. Wanted to verify this for myself and found this site. So obviously jews aren't celebrating the deaths of the egyptians first born but do they say a prayer for these unlucky people? Or are the modern jews just like well we are the chosen ones and it don't matter who god kills as long as it benefits us. Regardless it seems the history of the jewish people is and always will be intertwined with death and destruction. RIP Rachel Corrie, you shouldn't have expected mercy for trying to help the jewish enemy.
As a Christian who has read the Bible I should know more about Passover but this simple article seemed to make it all so clear. Thank you.
it's nice to know that there are websites like these to let others know more about the wonderful Jewish culture. :)
Saying that the history of the Jews always will be intertwined with death and destruction is like condemning the U.S. for its " history of death & Destruction". viz. Our war for independance w/Britain, Civil War, 1st WW, 2nd WW, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc. Isn't the struggle always for freedom against tyranny? That poor little Muslim Islamist cut off my head because I had the gall to refulse to say, "There is no god but Allah!" Hamas & Hezzbollah, backed by Iran & Syria are shooting hundreds of rockets into Israel, killing & maiming the innordent because those mean ole Jews won't give us their territory. Is that your thinking, Oneguy? Would you prefer tryanny to liberty? Freedom is not free! Think again!
Did you not err in saying that Passover and Unleavened bread is from Nisan 15 to the 21? Should this not be from the 14th? This is the way I and many others, understand. This includes a Rabbi where I atttend some of his services. This is according to Lev 20.
You are correct. The 14th day was the day upon which the Passover offering was brought in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, and we stop eating leaven from midday (midmoring) of that day. However, the holiday observance (once kicked off with the eating of the Passover lamb) begins in earnest on the 15th.
I am not of the Jewish faith but I surely enjoy your web site
It was really good to revise from. Thanks.
The 28th of December is the eighth and last day of Chanukah in 2012, we don't light candles that night.
Not Jewish but found this very interesting.
This is a great place to get info on passover and it helps me revise for homework, tests and lots more.
