I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it’s dry and ready
Oh dreidel, I shall play

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made you out of clay
And when you’re dry and ready
Oh Dreidel we shall play

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made you out of wood
And when you are all ready
I’ll play you when I could

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made you out of glass
And when you are all ready
I’ll play you on the grass

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made you out of gold
And when you are all ready
I’ll play you in the cold

what a delightful song that every generation can spin with the zeitgeist of their age by adding their own verses! (plus the intro sounded very dylanesque to me-maybe thats just the spin my baby boomer ear puts on it) Reply

Dreidel I've sung this song for goodness only knows hwo many years now this year I found some suitably sized wood in our wood bag at work, I'm still new to woodcarving but, I managed to gradually carve the sides down they sloped to meet at a central point in the middle. Now whenever I think fo this song I slot in I have a little Dreidel I made it out of wood or even I carved it out of wood stil haven't thought of something which sounds suitable as a substitue for when ti's dry and ready though Reply

more I have a little dreidel

I made it out of clay

And when it's dry and ready

Then dreidel I shall play

CHORUS

Oh dreidel dreidel dreidel

I made it out of clay

And when it's dry and ready

Then dreidel I shall play

It has a lovely body

With legs so short and thin

And when it is so tired

It drops and then I win!

CHORUS

My dreidel's always playful

It loves to dance and spin

A happy game of dreidel

Come play now, let's begin!

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
I made you out of tin,
And when I find the time,
I sit and give you a spin. Reply

The song "I Have A Little Dreidel" was originally written by my Grandfather, Samuel E. Goldfarb. Mr. Alevsky changes the words and music a bit, having fun with it. I'm sure my Grandpa would have approved! Reply

Thanks, I loved listening to all the songs. I am a great grandmother and want to teach the kids these songs and wasn't sure of the melody. Reply
