Rosh Hashana Eve

Light Holiday Candles

Girls and all women that are in the house (or if there isn't a woman in the house, the head of the household), light candles to usher in each night of the holiday, and then Shabbat. Follow this link for detailed holiday candle-lighting time information, and this link for local candle lighting times.

Thank you all...
One would think with all the communication forms that we would feel less isolated and alone, but some of us know this is not how it is. For Silvia and everyone else who is alone, displaced, isolated or forgotten, we are a family and my prayers will include all of us this yontif. May you all have a sweet, healthy peaceful New Year.

Psalm 122:6
As you come into the new year, I pray above all else for the blessing and protection of not only Jerusalem, but of all of G-d's people, the Jewish people.

Alone on Rosh Hashanah
Dear friends......

I'm alone too.......but remember - we're NEVER alone - G-d is always with us, no matter how far we may feel from our 'earthly' family - we are His, and He is ours........and, through Him, we are ALL family, especially on the High Holidays more than ever.
It's Rosh Hashanah eve here in China.....a country with 2 billion people and 1500 Jews.........where are they??.........they are all 'here', along with G-d, in my heart - in our hearts - we are the 'new' Diaspora........and we long for the day when we can come home and celebrate with our true Family.
Let us all light extra candles for our unknown 'family' - all of us who are alone - and let us rejoice in the sweet New Year that our L-rd will bring each and every one of us, because we are walking the path that He directed us to - and His hand is always upon us!!

Shana Tovah!!

To those alone, Widows, Orphans, Displaced
I light my candle for you.
May you find strength, comfort, and joy as G-d himself walks by yourside every day and every night. May his face shine upon you and keep you and bless you.
I too am all three and have found it to be so.
This year as I journey home to my beloved Israel.

Rosh Hashanah Blessings
Thank you is too little a phrase for what I am feeling. I have gratitude, love, warmth, and a familial connection to others with this site.

I really am sorry I don't have family here, or anyone to go to services with. This is a really sweet gift.

This year being alone is a bit daunting for me, and this makes it less so.

Thank you again and I wish you all a kind, sweet, healthy, and loving New Year.

p.s. to anyone non Jewish who wishes to light a candle and say a prayer...Thank You. This is so kind and sweet, how can anything that is purely good be inappropriate? May you have all the blessings I wish for my loved ones, and Israel.
