The Princess

Many dukes and princes wooed the princess, but she turned them down one after another. The king became impatient and swore that the next young man that would come to the gates of the palace would be her husband...

The Princess
Ah, but some of the nations of the world DO want to know about the Torah. Thank You for this wonderful story & your website. The Christian viewpoint on this... would be that basically, the Princess was allowed by G-d to go where she did in order that more people might benifit and be blessed by her presence, and indirectly, by the King!

Keep the Torah?
A wonderful story and analogy. Kind of took me back to childhood!

Back to reality:-

"So please take us away from here; take us back to our holy land, for all the world is yours; give us back our holy land as an inheritance, and we shall be able to keep the Torah in glory!"

This part made me wonder .......Does Israel keep the Torah in Glory? I mean, the law in Israel is secular.....as are most Israeli's.

Any comments?

1) Anon in Denver: The Christian viewpoint doesn't really matter as they were given (Edom) the opportunity to host/wed the "princess" yet they refused...
Yes, those that do strive to know G-d through his people have a right and they can begin at any time at a Chabad House in their neighborhood...

2) Muslima in London: The "back to our Holy Land" is only when we are *able* to "keep the Torah in all it's glory". Meaning the coming of the Messiah. Kind of hard to focus on the beauty of Torah right now and such when you are being bombed, stones, and basically denied any right to existence, don't you think? The current Israeli State is a small minute taste, not even, maybe a whiff of sovereignty.

In truth, this parable is meant to illustrate the body's relationship with the soul. The body has physical needs yet the soul yearns for the holy and eternal, and to bask in G-d's glory. That is the way I heard it.

To Sam
It's quite possible that there be more than one parable fearturing a king and a princess... The one you mention in closing is also on this site ( www.chabad.org/45834 ).

Yes, I see...
But the way I heard the above parabale was with the body/soul. The one at www.chabad.org/45834 I did not hear.

Do you recall which Rabbi said the one above? Was it the Dubna or Mezritcher Maggid?

It may have been the Mindeler Maggid

right
you are so right! most people forget about the torah and everything else that goes along with it until the feast days come along and it's time for them to repent. That was really beautiful.
