A Diamond is a Diamond is a Diamond!
It gets dirty; it can even lose its shine. But a diamond always remains a precious stone.

That’s what Yom Kippur does. It’s the annual buffing of the soul. The soul, like the diamond, always remains precious.

Restoring the Diamond
there is a Torah verse connected with returning to G-d that speaks of stumbling: when the legs trip over something, causing the person to fall, the head follows too. But that is not the person, that is the natural consequence of stumbling. The person's head ended up on the ground only because his legs tripped. With G-d's help he can be righted, and resume being the intact individual he was created to be before he fell (tripped, used, drank, abused, etc)
