Jews in Cork
Having temporarily resided in Cork from 1990-1992 I wonder what happened to the small intimate but friendly Jewish community. The synagogue was only opened for the High Holidays with a minyan coming from Dublin. Within the past few years the elders have died off. Were you taken to see the Jewish cemetery? There are funds left to maintain both the shul and the cemetery. There are many unaffiliated Jews out in the countryside who came to our holiday celebrations of Purim and Chanukah. We were the only Jewish family with children. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to live in a foreign country and try to remain observant and kosher. Kol ha Kavod.
