The Jewish community of Bobruisk, Belarus, which two months ago was forced to deal with several anti-Semitic acts of vandalism, now has a lot to celebrate.

Last Friday, Mayor Dmitry Bonohov granted permission for the construction of a ritual bath known as a mikvah to be built close to the city’s historic synagogue, which is in the process of being restored to its former glory.

And according to Chief Rabbi Shaul Habobo, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary, this Wednesday will see the city’s first traditional Jewish wedding in close to 70 years.

“We’re also planning a joint circumcision of some men and boys in our community,” Habobo announced in a letter to supporters.

That celebration has been scheduled for the upcoming holiday of Tu B’Shevat on Feb. 8.

Habobo went on to thank the Rohr Family, which “has been instrumental in the revival of Judaism in this city and in particular with providing significant funding for the synagogue’s reconstruction.”
