Synagogue Finds a Home on Nun’s Island

Once home to a community of a decidedly different religious order, Montreal’s Nun’s Island now has its own Chabad-Lubavitch center.

Rabbi Levi and Mushki Itkin recently moved from Brooklyn, N.Y., to establish the Chabad House just a few miles from downtown. From there, they run a synagogue and community center with Torah classes, Shabbat meals, youth programs and holiday celebrations.

“We just finished our first series of Torah classes,” stated the rabbi, “and one person decided to start donning the prayer boxes known as tefillin every day.”
