Sandra Samuel, the nanny who miraculously clutched then two-year-old Moshe Holtzberg from the jaws of death as terrorists controlled the Mumbai, India, Chabad-Lubavitch center will reportedly be granted Israeli citizenship.
Interior Minister Eli Yishai decided to confer citizenship upon Samuel – a native of India – in recognition of her heroism. He told reporters the move came as “a humanitarian step.”
Samuel was working at the Nariman House for directors Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg when terrorists stormed the building in the November 2008 attacks. They killed the Holtzbergs and four Jewish guests, but Samuel, who was hiding in a lower kitchen, rescued their son when she heard him crying for help.
Since then, Moshe Holtzberg has been living with his maternal grandparents in the northern Israel town of Afula. Samuel has pledged to stay by his side for as long as he needs.
