Construction Begins on English Jewish Children’s Center
The Lubavitch Centre of Leeds, England, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to usher in construction of the city’s new Jewish Heritage Centre for Children. Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Yeremiyahu Angyalfi, director of Chabad House, laid the first stone with the help of Fiona Spiers, regional manager of the Heritage Lottery Fund. The new building will represent the second round in a series of planned expansion projects.
Montreal Holds First-Ever Special-Needs Walk
Hundreds of family members and friends of children with special needs raised more than $100,000 during a walk-a-thon through Côte S. Luc’s Trudeau Park benefitting the Friendship Circle of Montreal. Rabbi Yosef and Sima Paris began the chapter – part of a worldwide network of Chabad House-based programs that pair teenage volunteers with children with special needs – nine years ago. Since then, more than 650 high school and university students have volunteered to meet one-on-one with the Friendship Circle’s clients.
Bronx Seniors Visited by “Kabbala Toons” Creator
Seniors at the acclaimed SAR Jewish High-School in the Bronx, N.Y., were visited by Rabbi Tzvi Freeman, the Toronto-based creator of the popular online animated series “Kabbala Toons.” Freeman, who also coordinates the Ask the Rabbi service at the Jewish Web site Chabad.org, demonstrated for students how every physical object has a lesson to teach about spirituality.
